Mr and Mrs Holland had lived with their deteriorating kitchen for years. Their victorian terrace house is beautiful, with stylish features in every corner. As with many houses of this type, the kitchen was located at the back of the house in a single skinned brick construction. The floor was a slab of concrete with quarry tiles on top. The result was a cold, damp and draughty room that was totally unsuitable for modern living.
Mr and Mrs Holland had always planned to renovate the room at some point. Unfortunately, as with all of us, "Life" has a way of taking over and reshuffled those plans into a new order. The kitchen refurbishment moved to the bottom of the list and life moved on. After decades living in the house, with two busy children almost fully grown, the Holland's were finally ready to tackle their kitchen renovation.
We had a long discussion about extensions and wall removal but, in the end, the decision was made to stick within the original kitchen space. The focus then shifted to make the best of the space and create the most practical family kitchen.
The old kitchen had seen better days and the integrity of the room had been compromised. Modernising and insulating the structure was a priority. So, before we could start, we needed to deconstruct the old kitchen space, build a new, insulated floor, insulate walls with an added vapour barrier, renew the electrics and plumbing. All of this work falls outside the remit of most kitchen retailers. Most companies prefer customers to sort all of these issues themselves. That's not how we work. All of the elements, from building, plumbing, electrical, and decoration were handled in-house. This was in addition to the kitchen design and installation.
The finished kitchen cabinets have solid wood fronts in a light teal shaker style. The fronts are completed with solid, hand made cabinetry by our skilled team in Wales. The result is a stylish and robust kitchen that adds tremendous value to this wonderful family home. Take a look at the images in the gallery below.
