When Kee and Mike first met us, they knew they needed a kitchen renovation, but they had no idea how much it would change their lives. They had a vision, but their busy family life was holding them back from seeing the full potential. Our job was to explore different design ideas that would make the most of the stunning conservatory that offered all-day sunlight to a beautiful period home in the heart of Penarth.
The previous kitchen had been in place for over a decade. It was tired and broken, with structural elements blocking precious sunlight and the downstairs loo dominating an area that could be better used.
We decided to open up the space completely. This was a big undertaking, so we hired specialist structural engineers to come up with a solution. We needed to support two floors above the kitchen and the delicate glass roof of the Summer House. They delivered a fantastic structural design that was expertly installed by a building team that took care of every detail.
One of the details was creating a new downstairs WC under the stairs. This required new integrated plumbing and drainage solutions. We also built a brand-new wall surface with hidden extraction built in for the hob and new toilet. The floor needed to be resurfaced too, after the old cement slab disintegrated as the old tiles were removed. And the electrical system was upgraded to meet modern requirements, with new lighting and modern, high-powered kitchen appliances.
The new kitchen was a perfect blend of classic and modern. We used German-made Pronorm X-Line cabinets for the base and tall units in a Linear Walnut finish. For the wall units, we installed a British-made cabinet with light green shaker doors for a lovely contrast.
Hey there! So, we went all out with this kitchen, and guess what? We went for a brass theme! It’s got this really sturdy look that goes perfectly with the stylish kitchen we’ve got going on. The Patinated Brass finish on the Quooker Boiling tap is just stunning, sitting right on top of the gorgeous and durable Dekton work surface.
This kitchen transformation is a total hit! It works on so many levels and totally meets our initial goal of modernising and opening up a family space that’s filled with light and warmth. Kee and Mike are absolutely loving their new kitchen. They spend more time in it than ever before. It’s totally changed their lives and how they enjoy their space.
