Jo and Ian love their grade 2 listed home in Llantwit Major and so they should, it's beautiful! Unfortunately, the original kitchen was in need of some TLC in order to bring it into line with the stunning condition of the rest of the house. With only two small windows and high walls around the courtyard, natural light was in short supply. This created a somewhat claustrophobic feel that was compounded by the original kitchen layout in a relatively small space.
Enter stage left, the Your Space Living Design Team of Jo and Ceri. They set about creating a space that would be light, functional and in-keeping with the style of the building. Jo and Ian were also keen to incorporate a dining area in the space, which required considerable thought and a little compromise.
The solid wood painted white shaker style cabinetry helped to open the room up considerably. Where previously the walls felt like they were closing in the space, now the room felt more open and brighter. The island was given a little contrast by using a graphite grey paint colour. We included an integrated microwave to add some more functionality. As well as integrated seating to help create a compact dining space. The Silestone worktops helped to bounce the light around the room and make this a stunning kitchen refurbishment.
Historical buildings always present a range of unique challenges and this was no exception. The stone was are made from a mixture of stone blocks that go back centuries. Drilling through to create an outlet hole for the extractor turned into a mammoth task, similar to that of Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption movie. So much so that we decided to make a short tribute video as a bit of fun and a reminder of the efforts we go to, in order to meet our client's needs.
