When we first started working on this incredible kitchen, our clients thought about adding an extension to make more space. But after thinking it over and showing them lots of design ideas, they decided against it. The extension would have been a big investment and changed the look of the house more than they were happy with. Instead, they decided to work with what they had, making the space both useful and beautiful. And guess what? They ended up with a stunning shaker-style kitchen that’s both timeless and modern.
One of the most impactful things we did was make the kitchen feel more open and airy. We opened up the back wall and put in a wide sliding window. This not only brought in a ton of natural light but also made the kitchen feel like it was connected to the garden, like it was bigger without actually being bigger. The window is the star of the show, showing off the beautiful garden and making it easy to serve food or drinks outside during the summer.
For the cabinets, we picked solid wood shaker doors in a deep, rich blue. We chose this colour because it’s both classic and modern, and it goes well with the traditional feel of the house. The shaker style, with its clean lines and timeless appeal, is a perfect match for the old house, but it still looks fresh and new. To make the blue cabinets pop, we put in brass handles and a light quartz countertop. This brightens up the space and adds a touch of luxury.
But it’s not just about looks. We also made some practical changes. We put in new porcelain tiles on the floor that look like oak wood in a herringbone pattern. This not only looks great but also makes the floor easy to clean and maintain. We also updated the plumbing and electrics, so the kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful.
The brand new boot room.
We went beyond the kitchen and made the adjacent boot room look great too. We kept the same design style and used blue cabinets and brass fixtures. This room is perfect for storing coats, shoes, and outdoor gear. It feels like a natural part of the kitchen, not like an afterthought.
